The Amisk Rug Kit
The Amisk Rug Kit
This pattern will guide you through weaving a weft faced wool and linen rug. Using wool from Briggs and Little, Canada’s oldest woollen mill, the rugs weft is 100% wool while the linen warp lends the rug qualities of strength, non- stretchiness and firmness.
The design was created by Fern, inspired a dear friend’s home on Amisk Lake in Alberta’s boreal forest. A weaver herself of many decades, her log cabin home is lined with handwoven rugs. Amsik is the Cree word for beaver, the iconic animal we’d often see when dipping in the lake after a traditional Finnish sauna.
The project is a two block design woven in a two-tie unit weave. Similar to Summer and Winter, this two colour rug will have different dominant colours on each side.
The instructions in this booklet will set you up for weaving one rug.
Finished Dimensions approximately 24” × 34.5” after finishing.
LEVEL : Intermediate. This project is rated intermediate as the warp threading is more complicated than a simple straight draw. Also because the entire rug is woven using two shuttles.
