ABOUT THE STUDIO

Fern began selling her hand woven items at the Royal Bison Art & Craft Fair in 2012. It was there that year after year people would ask if she taught classes. After much planning, Fern’s School of Craft offered its first weekend of workshops in 2017; a rug hooking class followed by a weaving class the next day. Since then the school has significantly grown its offerings.

Today Fern’s boasts a long list of instructors from Alberta and beyond that regularly share knowledge on a wide range of textile arts.

Our studio is committed to reducing barriers to craft and fosters iniatives to ensure diverse and accessible textiles outside of a capitalistic framework such as:

A monthly queer craft circle!

Six fully funded, three-month long artist residencies to local visual artists working outside of textiles.

Teaching craft in correctional facilities and working to secure funding for a longer term programming.

Long-term mentorship and collaborative projects like Weaving to Reclaim.
