This one evening beginner indigo-dyeing workshop will provide participants with a general overview of indigo history, chemistry and dyeing methods. We will use various wood-block resist techniques to create ready to wear or ready to display indigo-dyed items.

PROJECT: Using wood blocks, clamps and twine, participants will use traditional itajime shibori resist techniques to create one or two finished scarves or wall-hangings. Participants will have an opportunity to learn and practice a variety of techniques before completing their final projects.
Finished item(s) 60cm x 60cm Japanese cotton scarf or wall-hanging
DISCUSSION: We will discuss alternate forms of vat and dye preparation, additional techniques and best practices for dyeing at home.
INCLUDED: All materials and supplies are included.
PREREQUISITE: This class is suitable for beginner or intermediate indigo-dyers.
PLEASE BRING: You may choose to bring your own small cotton, silk or linen swatches to test techniques, though these materials will also be provided. Wear clothes and shoes that can be stained.
CANCELLATION POLICY: Due to very small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds on workshops. If for any reason you are unable to attend, you can send someone in your place. Any classes cancelled by us due to low registration or health mandates will have the option for a refund or transfer to a future date.
