PROJECT: This workshop will guide you through the completion of a large punch needle rug. Meeting once per month in September through December, we’ll have the time and motivation to create a 24 × 36” wool rug.

Using Briggs and Little 100% wool, the Oxford Punch Needle and a gripper frame, you’ll be guided through transferring your pattern onto the foundation cloth, punching a large project and the finishing touches of trimming, tidying and either a whipped or hemmed edge.

We are thrilled to have designs by local artists Nancy Nicholson, Alex Stratkotter and Fern Facette. Choose from these three designs or use your own design. Your design will need to be emailed to us one week before class begins.

PREREQUISITE: Students should be familiar with using an Oxford Punch Needle or equivalent. You should be able to punch the correct density and achieve consistent loops. If you’ve taken our punch needle cushion workshops you’ll be set!

NOTE: Class size limited to 8 people. All materials provided for classes. Students are expected to work on their rugs at home and have the punching, trimming and tidying completed by the start of the fourth class. This will allow us to begin the final finishing steps on the last class. Some finishing time at home may be required to complete the finishing steps.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Due to very small class sizes, we are unable to offer refunds on workshops. If for any reason you are unable to attend, you can send someone in your place. Any classes cancelled by us due to low registration or health mandates will have the option for a refund or transfer to future date.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes before class start time. Class end time may vary.

Fern’s BIO: Jessica Fern Facette is an Edmonton, Alberta, Canada based fibre artist, who has been weaving for nearly two decades. Her textile work is a modern spin on traditional techniques and patterns. Fern's weaving can also be found for sale once a year at Edmonton's Royal Bison Art & Craft Fair. She has initiated growth in the textile community by founding Fern’s School of Craft, a space where fibre artists from across Canada meet to carry on the long tradition of sharing skills and knowledge.
