Created with beginners in mind, this 4 hour workshop offers a gentle introduction to quiet rhythm of contemporary pine needle basketry. 

PROJECT: Beginning with a semi-precious stone cabochon of your choice and locally harvested Ponderosa pine needles you will create a trinket basket approximately 3 1/2 to 4 inches in diameter. 

What you will explore:

- How to start a pine needle basket using a pre-made centre and how to finish it with confidence. 

- Two foundational stitches — the spiral and wheat. 

- Tips for adding pine needles, managing stitch tension, creating the spiral, adding thread and how to achieve a balanced form. 

- How to harvest, prepare and store pine needles. 

- A brief history of pine needle basketry. 

By the end of the workshop, you will have a strong understanding of contemporary pine needle basketry and the endless possibilities the art form invites. 

INCLUDED: All materials, tools and a worksheet are included. 

PREREQUISITE: None! This is a beginner friendly workshop. 

WHAT TO BRING: A bagged lunch and your preferred method of note taking.
