IN THE LOOP
In this six hour workshop you will explore the quiet rhythm of looping — an ancient hand-stitching technique that permits you to build form slowly and intentionally, loop by loop. Looping (also known as knotless netting) is beautiful and meditative with endless possibilities, making it a powerful addition to your fibre art skill set.
PROJECT & DISCUSSION: Using the ‘flower’ start and waxed thread in a colour of your choice, you will loop and encase a field stone. You will begin with the simple loop stitch and then expanding your skills with the random loop stitch.
What you will explore:
• How to start and finish a looped piece with confidence.
• Two stitch variations.
• Tips for working evenly, managing tension, adding thread and creating a balanced form.
• A brief history of looping.
• The practical and sculptural potential of looping.
By the end of the workshop, you will have a strong understanding of looping basics and a growing sense of what’s possible with just a needle and thread.
INCLUDED: All materials are included.
PREREQUISITE: None! This is a beginner friendly workshop.
