Open Studio: we invite you to sign up below and put our equipment to good use! Also an opportunity to stop by and stock up on supplies for your next project.
Rug Tufting Gun ($35)
Come try out our machine tufting guns. We have two guns with different varieties; cut pile and looped pile. When you arrive an upright frame with pre-stretched backing will be ready for your use. You will be given a brief lesson on how to use the guns and then set loose to experiment. In this three hour time period you will finish a piece about 15 x 15”. Included is the use of both guns, the backing fabric, and two skeins of 4 ply wool the colours of your choice. Additional wool can be purchased at $6.50/skein.
4 Shaft Floor Loom ($30)
Whether you’ve taken a weaving class with us or elsewhere, this is for people who are comfortable weaving independently. You should be confident winding bobbins, throwing the shuttle, advancing the warp and reading drafts. The looms are set up with a 2/8 black cotton warp, sett at 15 epi with a Bird’s Eye threading. A draft will be provided to suggest various treadling options as well as a wide variety of weft fibres. At the end of the open studio, you will have a weaving approximately 13-17 inches of fabric that is 18” inches wide. Although weavers are expected to be mostly self sufficient during this drop-in, Fern will be available for trouble shooting.
Warping board ($5)
Wind a warp up to 10 yards long using our wall mounted warping board. Fern will be nearby to offer assurance that you’re getting that cross just right and securely adding cross ties for safe transporting your warp home. Bring your own warp materials or email us at least two weeks in advance to order warp supplies.
