Beginner Punch Needle Rug Hooking

  • Sky Office #1602, 10350 122St Edmonton, Alberta Canada (map)

The Amy Oxford Punch Needle has gone viral and is selling out faster than they can make them! Exciting but not surprising, the punch needle ups the hypnotizing factor of the already super fun craft of rug hooking.  This class is very similar to our previous rug hooking classes, except we'll be hooking with the punch needle instead of a traditional rug hook.

The hardest thing about rug hooking is finding the supplies! Seriously, these tools are delightfully mesmerizing and hard to come by.  You probably won't find a single rug hooking book at chapters, and you certainly can't get a punch needle from the "mother-store" Michaels. You gotta hit up a specialist for these hard to find items. Once you have the necessary tools, rug hooking is very fluid and free, a relaxing creative outlet!

PROJECT: Students will make a small rug hooking. All materials are provided, punch needles ($48) and backing ($30/m) can be purchased at the end of class if you wish to take more supplies home.  Patterns will be provided or you can bring your own.

DISCUSSION: How to use the Amy Oxford Punch Needle, hooking techniques and tips, stencilling patterns onto backing and finishing techniques, differences between hooking with a punch needle and a traditional rug hook.

PREREQUISITE: None!  Rug hooking is super easy, fast and no experience is necessary.

NOTE: Class size limited to 8 people.  All materials provided, Lady Craft portrait included. Cancellations must be made 72 HOURS BEFORE class date for full refund. Class subject to cancellation if minimum registration of 8 people is not met. Class end time may vary by 15 minutes.
